Accountant

The Accountant at SOA is an enthusiastic numbers specialist who sees value in getting the data right while ensuring all are billed and compensated fairly and consistently. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented and contributes to our positive, creative, team atmosphere.

REPORTS TO

This position reports to the Finance Manager.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages accounts receivable – prepares and processes client invoices, prepares markups and processing payments, coordinates consultant invoices for billing, reviews overdue accounts and follows up to ensure timely payment.
  • Manages accounts payable – processes and posts incoming invoices, enters credit card and reimbursable expenses in software and files.
  • Processes payments through EFT, cheques and other methods.
  • Processes team expenses and payments, ensuring compliance.
  • Reconciles bank and credit card statements, ensuring proper supporting documentation is in place.
  • Prepares and submits payroll and reporting, ensuring compliance.
  • Prepares and submits for tax reporting and compliance.
  • Financial statement preparation and regular reporting.
  • Assists with financial analysis and projections preparation.
  • Collaborates with project team to set up project structure for assigning time and billing.
  • Drafts, processes and ensures Owner/Architect contracts are executed for each project, and Architect/Consultant contracts when required.
  • Assists with project proposals as necessary.
  • Ensures generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) are followed.
  • Participates in relevant continuing education opportunities.
  • Participates in building SOA team culture and events.
  • Models SOA core values to our team, clients and the public.
  • Assists with reception cover and other administrative duties as required to develop SOA’s mission, vision and values.

YOUR CAPABILITIES

  • Accounting and/or Business Administration Degree, Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ relevant Canadian experience.
  • Experience handling vendor payments, client billing and receipts, team expenses, payroll, financial reporting, tax payments, bank records and data entry.
  • Strong knowledge of current GAAP, CRA reporting requirements, payroll compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Unanet, Payworks and other applicable accounting software.

NICE TO HAVE

  • CPA and/or PCP designations strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in an architectural, consulting or construction firm.
  • Experience with Unanet, Payworks and other accounting, payroll and project management software.

COMPENSATION

  • Starting salary: $50,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Full extended health & dental benefits, premiums paid by SOA, not you.
  • Continuing education and professional registration dues reimbursed.
