addiction treatment centre for chilliwack youth
Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) has been working with youth for over 35 years and saw a great need for a youth treatment centre in Chilliwack. This project involved a partnership between PCRS, BC Housing, and Fraser Health to create a safe place for young teens dealing with addiction to seek treatment and support. The floor plan is set up around a voluntary 6-month program involving treatment, counselling and wellness support by PCRS. Their program includes outdoor learning and sensory activities, individual and group counselling, and indoor and outdoor fitness. Lounges for each gender as well as a group lounge are included for socializing. Residents live in wings separated by gender in individual dorms that includes space to do their homework. Double egress doors on hold-opens are used in the corridors to build in flexibility for times when there may be more female residents than male residents and vice versa, and to allow for easy monitoring after curfew.
